Yesterday was the big Apple event and out of it came iTunes 10. The new software adds features like a music social network and naturally supports the iPhone.

I mentioned yesterday that rumors were circulating about a new iPhone 4 coming with a redesigned antenna. We have more of those rumors surfacing today claiming a redesigned case is the big change for the rumored update.

Epic games is working on an iPhone version of its popular video game called Fable. The game is a first person adventure title and was revealed at a press conference in London.

120,000,000 iOS device sold by September 1, 2010

As usual, Steve Jobs began his Apple music event keynote today by giving a breakdown of iOS devices sold to date — 120,000,000. It took them from June 2007 to June 2010 to reach 100,000,000 and only 3 months to add another 20,000,000 on top of that. Jobs also said they’re activating new devices at a rate of 230,000 a day.

While older, 2007 devices are no longer compatible with iOS 4, iPad apps won’t run on iPhone, and camera apps won’t run on iPad or older iPod touches, that’s still a huge number of broadly compatible devices for developers to target. Case in point…

App Store downloads have hit 6.5 billion, which is an astonishing number. And yes, whoosh, that’s increasing at a rate of 200 a second. There are 250,000 apps in the App Store now, 25,000 of which are iPad apps. Speaking of stores…

In terms of Apple Retail Stores, they now have 300 in 10 countries with one in Spain set to increase both counts soon. On some days they get more than 1 million visitors. They teach 80,000 one-to-one classes a week. Over 50% of Mac buyers are new to the platform.

Apple TV has A4 chip, iOS, so where are the apps, games, a web browser?

Apple TV - no apps, games, or web

The new Apple TV is running on an Apple A4 chip, just like iPhone and iPad, and almost certainly running iOS, so where are the apps, games, and web browser?

We got Netflix, but it was built in just like YouTube. We got iOS under the covers but no iOS-style UI. We got AirPlay, so we can stream from iPhone or iPad, and presumably there’ll be an Apple Remote app to control Apple TV via iPhone or iPad…

… but I kinda wanted more.

Apple TV wins on ease of use, but for power and flexibility one of those new Mac Minis and the excellent Windows 7 Media Center are the nuclear option, and many also cheap boxes like Roku, Boxee, etc. arguably have more bang for the buck.

Could Apple have an Apple TV SDK in the wings, something to announce for developers at a late date? Or is it the most closed of the already closed iOS boxes?

I have to believe gaming on Apple TV is a gold mine, so my bet is we see apps… eventually. What’s yours?
